Aliakbar Gulasan or also better known as Mr. Aliakbar Gulasan Khan (Jawi: علي أكبر بن ۢولاسن) is a Malaysian politician of Bajau/Pakistani descent from Sabah, Borneo, East Malaysia. He is an official member and the Sabah State chairman of Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). At the party level, he is a member of the Central PAS Working Committee. He is a senior lecturer, Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). He was appointed as the chairman of the Malaysian Cocoa Board. In the year of 2020, he recognised by Sabahans as the first ever PAS member who become representative for Sabah State Legislative Assembly (ADUN).
The background
= Early life
=Dr. Aliakbar Gulasan Khan and his family living in the State of Sabah, in East Malaysia. He was born from Bajau/Pakistani bloodline and living with his family in Keningau District of Interior, Sabah. Aliakbar was born in Kampung Kota Ayangan Keningau and later settled in Tenom, Sabah. He is the fourth of eight children. His father, Gulasan bin Mushall Khan, initially worked as a passenger car driver using a Land Rover car (Tenom-Keningau). His father also has rubber and cocoa land. After that, his father also became a driver at the Public Works Department (JKR) in Tenom. His mother, Ruhujah binti Musturullah works as a full-time housewife.
= Education
=He received his early education at St Anthony Tenom National School starting in 1978 before continuing his secondary education at St Anthony Tenom Secondary School from Form 1 to 5 (1983–1987). Then he continued his education in Form Six at SMK Gunsanad Keningau (1988–1999).
He continued his studies at the University of Malaya in the field of Geography. After that, he continued his studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) until he graduated with a master's degree in Environmental Management in 1995 and then continued his studies at the PhD level in the field of Urban Geography in 2009. Aliakbar Gulasan become co-owner and then owner of some land in Sabah including the one his father had.
= Career
=After successfully completing his studies at UKM in 1995, he was accepted to serve as a lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) since November 1996. He was appointed as Chairman of the Malaysian Cocoa Board on 1 July 2020.
Politics
After the Malaysian Islamic Party leadership election, he was elected as a member of the Central PAS Working Committee.
