Anne Shirley adalah karakter fiksi yang pertama kali diperkenalkan dalam novel Anne of Green Gables pada tahun 1908 karya L. M. Montgomery. Shirley muncul di sepanjang seri novel, yang mengisahkan mengenai kehidupannya dan keluarganya pada abad ke-19 dan ke-20 di Pulau Pangeran Edward, Kanada.




Kehidupan awal


Anne Shirley lahir di kota fiksi Bolingbroke, Nova Scotia, putri dari pasangan Walter dan Bertha Shirley (née Willis), yang berprofesi sebagai guru. Tidak diketahui kapan Anne lahir, tetapi di dalam novel secara tersirat disebutkan tanggal 5 Maret 1866. Anne menjadi yatim piatu ketika berusia tiga bulan setelah kedua orang tuanya tiada akibat sakit tifus. Karena tidak memiliki kerabat, Anne dirawat oleh pembantu keluarga Shirley, Mrs. Thomas. Setelah kematian suami Mrs. Thomas, Anne tinggal bersama keluarga Hammond yang bermasalah selama beberapa tahun. Di keluarga ini, Anne diperlakukan seperti pembantu. Setelah suaminya tiada, Mrs. Hammond menyerahkan Anne ke panti asuhan di Hopetown.
