Liam Joseph Conlon is a British politician. A member of the Labour Party, Conlon has served as the Member of Parliament for Beckenham and Penge since July 2024. He is also chairperson of the Labour Party Irish Society.
Career
Conlon was selected by party members in Beckenham and Penge constituency to be their candidate, and was elected with a majority of 12,905 over the Conservative candidate. Conlon received a £10,000 donation from Lord Alli towards his election campaign. He is the first Labour MP to cover the whole town of Beckenham.
In August 2024 Conlon received two free tickets worth £1,660 to a Taylor Swift concert Wembley Stadium, at which Swift used a blue light escort reportedly negotiated by his mother, Sue Gray.
Conlon was appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Department for Transport following his election.
Personal life
Conlon is the son of Bill Conlon, a former Country music singer, and his wife, former senior civil servant Sue Gray, who served as Downing Street Chief of Staff under Sir Keir Starmer from July to October 2024. He had a hip replacement at the age of 17 due to an accident at the age of 13 where he fractured his hip; for years following the accident he was unable to walk. As a result of this, he is one of a handful of current disabled MPs, and drives an adapted car.
