This is a list compiling the most notable caves out of all 10,000 found in the US state of Tennessee. This is the most caves of any state, estimated to be around twenty percent of all caves in America. The reason behind this is believed to be because Tennessee was once below a shallow ocean, where the bodies of ancient sea creatures built up over long periods of time to form limestone, the primary mineral required to form caves. The limestone is then eroded by rain to form caves.
