Competition climbing is a nascent sport in India. It is governed by the recently formed Federation of Indian Sport Climbing, and was initially administered by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation. In 2024, Rajmohan Pillai and Sushil Malik were elected the president and vice-president of the SCFI.
Bangalore is a hub of competition climbing in India. The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering conducts short term courses in competition climbing.
Indian competition climbers
Deepu Mallesh at rank 81 is the highest-ranked Indian competition climber and the holder of the record in competition speed climbing. Prateeksha Arun, the winner of national titles, took part in the 2023 Asian Games. Shivani Charak has represented the country at the Asian Youth Games and the Asian Games.
Asian Games
India sent a seven-member sport climbing contingent to the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. However, the athletes did not win any podium places.
