Abu Simbel (yang bahasa Arab أبو سنبل atau أبو سمبل) adalah sebuah situs arkeologi yang terdiri dari dua kuil batu di selatan Mesir tepatnya di ujung Danau Nasser atau sejauh 290 kilometer baratdaya kota Aswan. Saat ini Abu Simbel adalah Situs Warisan Dunia UNESCO yang masuk bagian ke dalam Markah tanah Nubia, yang melingkupi dari Abu Simbel sampai ke Philae.
Kuil ini sebenarnya dipahat dari tebing batu pasir saat Firaun Ramses II masih berkuasa pada sekitar tahun 1250 SM, sebagai markah tanah terakhir untuknya dan istrinya Nefertari, untuk memperingati kemenangannya pada Pertempuran Kadesh, dan untuk menakuti tetangga Nubia.
Bagian dalam dari kuil besar (disebut juga Kuil Ramses II)) memiliki ketinggian yang menjulang hingga lebih dari 55 m (sekitar 180 kaki) dan terdiri dari serangkaian aula dan ruangan yang mengarah kepada pusat dari kuil. Kuil ini diperuntukkan Firaun Ramses II bagi para dewa utama dari Heliopolis, Memphis, dan Thebes. Struktur dari kuil ini dibuat sedemikan rupa sehingga cahaya dari matahari terbit dapat menerangi patung dari 3 dewa dan Firaun Ramses II di bagian pusat dan terdalam kuil. Kuil kecil (disebut juga Kuil Nefertari) diperuntukkan Firaun Ramses II bagi ratu yang juga istrinya, Nefertari, dan dewi Hathor.
Di bagian depan dari kuil besar terdapat 4 patung duduk Firaun Ramses II, dengan tinggi masing-masing lebih dari 20 m (sekitar 65 kaki). Sedangkan patung-patung lebih kecil dari Firaun Ramses II, Nefertari, dan anak mereka menghiasi bagian depan dari kuil kecil. Terdapat sejumlah prasasti dan relief di kuil besar, sebagian menampilkan fitur sejarah yang tidak biasa. Serangkaian relief melukiskan pertempuran antara bangsa Mesir dengan Bangsa Het di Kadesh. Dua dari patung duduk Firaun Ramses II memiliki prasasti dalam bahasa Yunani yang berasal dari Abad 6 SM. Prasasti-prasasti yang ditulis oleh tentara bayaran Yunani merupakan salah satu prasasti Yunani tertua.
Abu Simbel, monumen terpenting bagi Nubia kuno, tidak diketahui keberadaannya oleh dunia barat hingga 1812, ketika kuil tersebut ditemukan oleh penjelajah Swiss Johann Ludwig Burckhardt (1784-1817). Pada 1964 proyek internasional untuk menyelamatkan Abu Simbel dari peluapan Danau Nasser yang merupakan waduk bagi Bendungan Aswan dimulai. Bagian-bagian dari kuil tersebut dipisahkan, dan pada tahun 1968 dirangkai kembali di situs baru yang terletak 64 m (210 kaki) di atas sungai.
Proyek Internasional ini didanai oleh UNESCO, dan proyek dari penyelamatan Kuil ini juga merupakan cikal bakal terbentuknya Situs Warisan Dunia UNESCO, yang merupakan tempat yang dikategorikan oleh badan PBB, UNESCO sebagai tempat yang penting bagi umat manusia dan harus dilindungi sebagai sebuah Warisan oleh generasi berikutnya.
