Albany adalah sebuah kota yang terletak di New York, adalah ibu kota negara bagian New York. Kota ini terletak di tepi barat Sungai Hudson. Jumlah penduduk Albany adalah 97.904 jiwa pada tahun 2012 dengan luas area 55,4 kilometer persegi. Bersama dengan kota-kota terdekat, seperti Troy dan Schenectady, Albany membentuk Distrik Modal New York, yakni sebuah kawasan perumahan besar dan pusat bisnis.
Seorang navigator Inggris bernama Henry Hudson adalah orang yang pertama kali mengunjungi wilayah ini saat tahun 1609. Ketika itu, wilayah tersebut dihuni oleh orang-orang Mahican dari suku bangsa Algonquian. Setelah empat tahun, Belanda membuka pos perdagangandi daerah tersebut dengan nama Fort Nassau. Pada tahun 1624, pemukiman mulai didirikan secara permanen oleh keluarga Walloon dari Belgia, dinamai Fort Oranye. Lalu berganti nama menjadi Beverwyck (kota berang-berang) tahun 1652. Setelah Beverwyck menyerah kepada Inggris saat 1664, pemukiman ini berganti nama lagi menjadi Albany untuk menghormati Raja James II yang sebelumnya merupakan Duke of York (Duke of Albany) gelar dari Skotlandia untuk King James II.
