Walter and D (also Dukie & Randy) are all people who, if they were given a quantum of a shred of a chance, could have gone to college, had successful careers and comfortable lives where their compassion and empathy would have served them better.

Only "Howling II" is an actual sequel to the original, as it starts with Dee Wallace's funeral and her brother trying to find out what happened to her. The others all just have werewolves as a common thread. "III" is set in Australia with marsupial werewolves, for crying out loud.

When Dee tried to cover for Wallace when he came back, String didn’t believe him (probably because he already felt Dee was weak and not 100% in the game either).
