    Lee Byung-chul (12 Februari 1910 – 19 November 1987) adalah seorang pengusaha Korea Selatan yang mendirikan Samsung Group. Ia adalah putra dari keluarga kaya pemilik tanah dan sempat mengenyam pendidikan perkuliahan di Universitas Waseda Tokyo meskipun tidak sampai lulus. Lee mendirikan Samsung pada tahun 1938, pada usia 28 tahun. Ia dianggap sebagai salah satu pengusaha tersukses di Korea Selatan.


    Kehidupan


    Lee Byung-chul menggunakan uang warisannya untuk membuka penggilingan padi untuk usaha yang pertama. usaha itu tidak berjalan dengan baik. Pada tahun 1938 Lee Byung-Chul mendirikan perusahaan perdagangan ekspor di Korea, menjual ikan, sayuran, dan buah-buahan ke Tiongkok. Perusahaan berkembang dengan pesat dan Lee memindahkan kantor pusatnya ke Seoul pada tahun 1947. Ketika pecah Perang Korea, ia terpaksa meninggalkan Seoul dan memulai usaha pabrik gula di Busan yang bernama Cheil Jedang. Dan itu adalah pabrik gula Korea Selatan pertama. Setelah perang, pada tahun 1954, Lee mendirikan Cheil Mojik dan membangun pabrik wol di Chimsan-dong, Daegu. Dan itu adalah pabrik wol terbesar di negaranya, perusahaan berkembang dengan pesat menjadi perusahaan besar.
    Tidak semua perusahaan dengan Brand yang terkenal saat ini didirikan dari awal dengan Brand tersebut, seperti perusahaan Group Samsung yang saat ini lebih dikenal oleh publik sebagai perusahaan Elektronik Telekomunikasi pada awalnya adalah perusahaan yang bergerak dalam bidang yang jauh berbeda dengan saat ini.
    Dari tahun 1958 dan seterusnya Samsung mulai ekspansi ke industri lain seperti keuangan, media, bahan kimia, dan pembuatan kapal selama tahun 1970-an. Pada akhir 60-an, Samsung Group mulai masuk ke dalam industri elektronik. Agar perusahaan bisa berkembang dengan pesat perusahaan membagi tugas kerja dalam bentuk divisi-divisi elektronik, diantaran Samsung Electronics Co Devices, Samsung Electro-Mekanika Co, Samsung Corning Co, dan Samsung Semiconductor & Telecommunications Co, dan membuat fasilitas di Suwon. Produk pertamanya adalah televisi hitam-putih.
