    San Antonio Spurs adalah tim bola basket dalam National Basketball Association yang berpusat di San Antonio, Texas. Mereka telah memenangkan kejuaraan NBA sebanyak 5 kali, tahun 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, dan 2014.


    Sejarah


    Mereka mulanya bernama Dallas Chaparrals dalam American Basketball Association (ABA) pada 1967. Kemudian diganti menjadi Texas Chaparrals pada musim pertandingan 1970-1971. Pada 1973 mereka dibeli oleh sekelompok pengusaha dari San Antonio yang terdiri dari 36 orang, dipimpin oleh Angelo Drossos dan Red McCombs dan diberi nama San Antonio Spurs.
    Tim ini mulai menjadi salah satu tim kuat di Wilayah Barat ketika pada masa George Gervin, tepatnya pada tahun 1976-1985. Mereka menjadi tim langganan masuk playoff dan sering menjuarai divisinya, tetapi tidak pernah melaju ke Final NBA, setelah kalah dari tim seperti Washington Bullets, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers. Sepeninggal Gervin, Spurs memasuki masa-masa sulit dan Spurs sempat terancam akan pindah kota karena jumlah penonton menurun drastis dihitung dari 1985. Spurs mulai menemukan kembali kejayaan dengan adanya David Robinson di Spurs. Spurs kembali sering menuju playoff dan menjuarai divisinya, akan tetapi Spurs belum bisa merasakan Final NBA.
    Masuknya Tim Duncan ke San Antonio Spurs benar-benar membawa berkah. Bersama David Robinson, mereka membentuk "menara kembar" yang ditakuti di NBA. Duet ini berhasil membawa Spurs menjuarai NBA untuk pertama kalinya pada tahun 1999. Duet ini, ditambah Tony Parker dan Manu Ginobili, Spurs berhasil menjuarai NBA kembali pada tahun 2003. Sehabis final, Robinson pensiun dari NBA. Meski demikian, Spurs masih bisa menjuarai NBA sebanyak dua kali, yaitu pada tahun 2005, 2007. Semakin menuanya tiga pemain utama mereka yakni Duncan, Ginobili, dan Parker, maka Spurs tidak lagi terlalu kompetitif hingga pada tahun 2013, dimana mereka kembali ke Final dan dikalahkan oleh Miami Heat dengan agregat 4-3. Akan tetapi pada tahun 2014, dengan lawan yang sama, Spurs berhasil menang dengan agregat 4-1. Dengan seringnya Spurs menjuarai NBA, banyak orang menganggap mereka telah mendirikan suatu dinasti di kompetisi NBA.
