    History


    Yeso was laid out in 1906 when the railroad was extended to that point. The community took its name from nearby Yeso Creek. The post office has been in operation at Yeso since 1909.

The word means "gypsum" in Spanish; the town was established inm 1906, when the AT&SF RR came to the area, and it became a trading center for ranchers (and the very few farmers) in the area. Its post office began operations in 1909, and continues to the present (but, the name was spelled Yesso during the years 1912-1913, for unknown reasons).
