Ringkasan cerita

Denzel Wasington adalah seorang ahli forensik yang tengah mendapat tugas menyelidiki pembunuhan berantai. sang pembunuh selalu meninggalkan tulang si korban. pada suatu saat di sebuah TKP yaitu sebuah stasiun kereta subway, Denzel mengalami kecelakaan fatal yang berakibat tulang belakangnya remuk hingga ia difonis cacat seumur hidup oleh dokter. karena jasa-jasanya dan kecerdasan otaknya dalam membongkar beberapa kasus pembunuhan, negara khususnya NYPD memberikan suatu pengobatan gratis yang amat mahal untuknya. suatu ketika sang komisaris besar polisi New York memberikan surat keputusan bahwa ia dipensiunkan dini tetapi Denzel menolak mentah-mentah, bahwa ia akan tetap menjadi ahli forensik sampai kapanpun. Atas pendapatnya yang tegas dan idealis itu, seluruh tim forensik New York yang selama ini bekerja sama dengannya mendukung keputusannya itu. kemudian ia menerima sebuah data analisis lapangan yang dilakukan oleh seorang polisi lalulintas. Denzel begitu kaget bahwa ada polisi yang meiliki kecerdasan intuisi, logika dan analisis yang menakjubkan. Denzel berpikir bahwa seharusnya yang membuat laporan TKP ini adalah seorang forensik berpengalaman. dengan berbekal bakat yang unik ini akhirnya polisi ini (Angelina Jolie)bertemu Denzel dan mengajaknya untuk memecahkan kasus pembunuhan yang dikenal dengan "sang pengkolektor tulang". meski ingatan dan masa lalu Jolie akan ayahnya yang juga polisi selalu terngiang dikepalanya, namun entah tugas atau karena nalurinya sebagai polisi yang ingin membantu memecahkan segala tindak kejahatan dengan tulus, akhirnya ia menerima tawaran Denzel dan bergabung dalam tim forensik di bawah naungan NYPD. kenyataan bahwa menjadi seorang forensik bukan hal yang semudah dan se-simple yang dipikirkan Jolie. kini ia harus terbiasa berlumuran darah, melihat daging terkoyak bahkan membedah tubuh korban pembunuhan lansung di TKP. ini membuat naluri perempuannya berontak karena tidak terbiasa menghadapi hal demikian. Denzel tetap dalam pendiriaanya untuk menunjuk jolie sebagai tangannya dilapangan. lama kelamaan ia mulai mencintai sang forensik genius yang lumpuh ini meski kini sang pembunuh yang cerdas tengah mengincar dan menteror kesatuan polisi NYPD tanpa kecuali Denzel Wasington sebagai otak dari terbongkarnya semua modus pembunuhan.
