The Airborne Special Service Company (ASSC; Chinese: 高空特種勤務中隊), alternatively known as the Liang Shan Special Operations Company (涼山特勤隊), is the only tier one special forces unit belonging to the Republic of China Army (ROCA).
The ASSC is a well-known special mission unit in Taiwan, they are reportedly based in Pingtung County, Taiwan, and tasked with carrying out; black operation, counterterrorism, direct action, executive protection, force protection, hostage rescue, irregular warfare, long-range penetration, and special operations that are extremely high-risk and dangerous, including capture or kill high-value targets, counterterrorist organizations that pose a threat to Taiwan's security, decapitation strikes in the event of a war, protection of high-ranking officials in dangerous areas, and providing security in areas at risk of attack or terrorism.
Composition
The ASSC reportedly is composed of approximately 150 personnel, and was founded around 1980. It is similar to the US Army's Delta Force and the British Army's Special Air Service (SAS). It is subordinate to the Army Aviation and Special Forces Command.
