The name Alavaimalai is derived from Tamil language. Alavaimalai: Arai-அரை+Vazhi-வழி+Malai-மலை. That is Arai-Half, Vazhi-Way, Malai-Hill. The Alavaimalai Subrayar Murugan Temple is located half of the hill
and face to west side.
