    • Albany adalah sebuah kota di wilayah negara bagian Georgia dan ibu kota pemerintahanan Dougherty County, Amerika Serikat. Letaknya di barat daya Georgia, dan merupakan kota utama pada Albany, Georgia metropolitan area. Jumlah penduduknya 77.434 jiwa menurut Sensus Amerika Serikat 2010, menjadikannya kota terbesar kedelapan di Georgia.


    Sejarah


    Area kota Albany sekarang dulunya dihuni oleh Creek Indians, yang menyebut tempat itu Thronateeska berdasarkan kata "flint" karena penemuan bahan mineral flint di dekat sungai. Orang Creek menggunakan flintstone ini untuk membuat peralatan dan senjata misalnya kepala anak panah.
    Permukiman orang kulit putih dimulai oleh Nelson Tift, seorang pengusaha dari Connecticut, yang menguasai tanah sepanjang Sungai Flint pada bulan Oktober 1836 setelah pengusiran orang Indian. Orang Creek dipaksa untuk pindah ke Indian Territory di sebelah barat sungai Mississippi. Tift menamai kota barunya "Albany" seperti ibu kota negara bagian New York; keduanya sama-sama terletak di hulu sungai-sungai yang dapat dilayari. Alexander Shotwell membuat tata kota pada tahun 1836. Tempat itu di-inkorporasi sebagai kota berdasarkan peraturan General Assembly of Georgia pada tanggal 27 Desember 1838.
