Byrum Brown (born September 29, 2004) is an American football quarterback who plays for the South Florida Bulls.
Early life
Brown was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and attended Rolesville High School. In Brown's high school career he would complete 464 of his 758 passes for 8,122 yards and 87 touchdowns to 21 interceptions. Brown would also rush for 2,074 yards and 26 touchdowns. Brown would decide to commit to play college football at the University of South Florida.
College career
= 2022 Season
=Brown made his first start in the 2022 season against Tulsa, where he would go on to complete 21 of his 25 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding 76 yards and a touchdown on the ground, but the Bulls would fall to Tulsa 48–42. Brown finished the 2022 season, completing 36 of his 50 passes for 404 yards and five touchdowns to one interception, while also rushing for 179 yards and three touchdowns.
= 2023 Season
=Heading into the 2023 season, Brown was named South Florida's starting quarterback. In week two of the 2023 season, Brown completed 20 of his 34 passing attempts for 197 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for two touchdowns, as he helped South Florida snap an eleven game losing streak beating Florida A&M. In week four, Brown had a breakout game completing 22 of his 29 pass attempts for 435 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 82 yards, as he helped the Bulls beat Rice. For his performance on the game, Brown was named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week, Davey O'Brien Award "Great 8" Quarterbacks of the week, and the Manning Award "Stars of the Week". In week 5, Brown would help the Bulls snap a 19-game road losing streak by defeating Navy 44-30. In that game, he would complete 26 of his 34 pass attempts for 338 yards with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. Brown would have another big game in a week 9 loss to the Memphis Tigers, completing 31 of his 39 pass attempts for 357 yards, 5 touchdowns and 1 interception, while rushing for 100 yards on 23 attempts. In the final game of the regular season, Brown would have 296 total yards of offense and 5 touchdowns in a 48-14 rout of the Charlotte 49ers, earning himself AAC Offensive Player of the Week for a 2nd time, and clinching a Bulls bowl game for the first time since 2018.
Brown finished the regular season having set and broken USF quarterback records. Brown surpassed USF's single season passing yards record previously set by Quinton Flowers and Matt Grothe while becoming the program's first 3,000 yard passer. Brown finished first in the AAC and 7th in FBS in total yards (3,823) and total yards per game (318.6), and was first in the AAC and 12th in FBS in points responsible for (17.3 ppg). Brown would join LSU's Jayden Daniels as the only quarterbacks in FBS to throw and rush for 3,000+ and 700+ yards on the season.
Brown would lead the Bulls to a 45-0 victory over the Syracuse Orange in the Boca Raton Bowl. In that game he would complete 19 of 26 pass attempts for 214 yards and 3 touchdowns, while rushing for 64 yards on 14 attempts, earning him Offensive MVP honors.
