The competition was founded in 1995. The winners of the 5.180.24.3/info/zone" target="_blank">zone championship qualified for the 5.180.24.3/info/fiba" target="_blank">FIBA 5.180.24.3/info/africa" target="_blank">Africa Women's Club Champions Cup. The tournament is held annually in October, with teams qualifying through their domestic leagues.
