Havana Township was named after Havana, the capital of Cuba.

According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 59.06 square miles (153.0 km2), of which 57.86 square miles (149.9 km2) (or 97.97%) is land and 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2) (or 2.03%) is water.
