    Synthesis


    Isobutyl chloride can be synthesized in a substitution reaction by reacting isobutanol with hydrochloric acid, catalyzed by concentrated sulfuric acid:

    (CH3)2CH−CH2−OH + HCl → (CH3)2CH−CH2−Cl
