Kung Ayaw Mo, Huwag Mo! (transl. If you don't want to, then don't!) is a 1998 romantic-comedy and drama film released by Star Cinema directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng. It stars Maricel Soriano, William Martinez, Jolina Magdangal, and Marvin Agustin. The film was a reunion movie of Soriano and Martinez whose tandem was first seen in the drama film Oh, My Mama! (1981) but were popularized by romantic comedy films such as Galawgaw (1982) and I Love You, I Hate You (1983). They are joined by Magdangal and Agustin, in their first full-length film together, whose tandem first appeared in the segment Tameme of the twin-bill film FLAMES: The Movie (1997), 7 months later since it was released in July. The film was initially entitled “Pag-Ibig Mo, Pag-Ibig Ko”. Soriano and Magdangal also both reunited 2 years ago in Ama, Ina, Anak (1996).
According to Magdangal, her casting alongside Soriano is a dream come true especially that, aside from being a fan, Soriano was a big influence in her acting career.
Plot
Doris (Soriano) and Ditas (Magdangal) are sisters who grew up doing almost everything together.
Doris, a very strict sister, has a rule that Ditas shouldn't be in a relationship until she finishes her studies, even though she has a huge crush on her handsome classmate Chuck (Dominic Ochoa). Doris owns a pop-up restaurant together with her workers Badang (John Lapus) and Liza (Mel Kimura). She's also an avid fan of a telenovela about a certain Pepito and Conchita.
Doris met Miko (Agustin), a student who works as a taxi driver, after fixing the restaurant's electrical current. On the way home from school, Ditas got into trouble. Because of this, Doris hired Miko to be Ditas' driver.
While hanging out at the bar with friends, Doris saw her ex-boyfriend, Mike (Martinez). She didn't realize she took Mike's pager upon leaving the bar. Miko went to the bar to give back the pager to Mike. During their conversation, Doris justified why she left Mike, as she felt that he wasn't the right person for her. But as time passed by, she would think of him again. That is why Ditas and Miko formulated a plan for them to reconcile.
During their trip to the resort, Doris didn't realize that Mike was there too. She then explained to him the reason for their breakup- that she thought that Mike would hinder her from fulfilling her dreams for Ditas. Eventually, they reconciled. As Doris and Mike's relationship started to blossom once again, Ditas and Miko confessed their love for one another.
Doris chose Chuck to be Ditas' escort for the latter's 18th birthday. Ditas wanted to tell the truth to Doris, but to no avail. At the night of her party, Chuck's coat was stained, forcing him and his mother to go home. Miko volunteered to be Ditas' escort instead, to the surprise of the guests.
At the restroom, Doris overheard Bettina and some of Ditas' classmates talking about the latter's relationship with Miko. This made Doris furious and sent Ditas home. Because of this, Doris became stricter.
The next morning, Doris saw Miko at her restaurant fixing an electrical wire, making her furious, bossy and acting hostile towards Badang and Liza. She also picked up Ditas from school late one afternoon and prevented Miko from going to her restaurant, The following day, Miko told Ditas that he was going back to Lucena to avoid Doris' wrath. When Mike and Doris saw this, she repeatedly slapped Miko. Mike tried to mediate but Doris refused to back down. Fed up, Ditas decided to run away from home.
At home, Doris was all alone until Mike came over and explained to her how being unreasonably strict forced Ditas to run away. They then visited Miko, who was about to leave for Lucena, and asked him to help them in looking for Ditas. Miko then called Bettina, who said that Ditas went back home. However, she wasn't there when Mike, Doris and Miko arrived. It turned out that Ditas decided to stay at Doris' restaurant, where a fire broke out while she was asleep due to a faulty electrical wire.
Doris went to the restaurant to try and save Ditas, who was trapped inside. They were eventually found by Mike and Miko. Doris and Ditas eventually apologized to one another, and Doris and Mike finally got married.
