Lisa M. Coleman is an American academic administrator who is the incoming president of Adler University. She served as the senior vice president for global inclusion and strategic innovation at New York University from 2017-2024, where she also served on the faculty and taught courses focused on leadership at the NYU Abu Dhabi campus and in the NYU Leonard Stern School of Business.
Life
Coleman earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology at Denison University. Her master's work is in African and African American studies, women's gender and sexuality studies, and communication studies - Ohio State University. She received a Ph.D. in social and cultural analysis and American studies at New York University.
Coleman was the director of the Africana program at Tufts University and was its senior inclusion officer. At Harvard University, she was the inaugural chief diversity officer and a special assistant to the president. Coleman was the first senior vice president for global inclusion and strategic innovation at New York University. On September 1, 2024, she is set become the seventh president of Adler University, succeeding Raymond E. Crossman. She is the first woman and Black person selected for the role.
