Extinct species:
Bermuda saw-whet owl, described from fossil records and explorer accounts of the bird in the 17th century.
Laughing owl, last seen in 1914.
Mauritius scops owl, last seen 1837 and certainly extinct by 1859.
Réunion scops owl, went extinct in the 17th century after the colonization of the island of Réunion.
Rodrigues scops owl, last recorded in 1726.
