Meiram - The Fire Line is a 2022 Manipuri documentary film written and directed by James Khangembam. It was the opening film at the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival 2022. The film was selected in the International Prism section of the festival. It also got selection in the Competition Short Documentary section of the 14th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) 2022. The film was commercially screened at Tanthapolis Cinema, Lamphel on 4 March 2023.
Meiram - The Fire Line was screened at the Sangai Film Festival 2022, which was organised as a part of the Manipur Sangai Festival.
Synopsis
The film narrates the revolutionary environmental movement initiated by Moirangthem Loiya at Langol hills for forest conservation. Moirangthem Loiya along with a group of his friends rejuvenated a 300 acre forest through dedicated replantation and preservation work in a span of 18 years. The particular focus of the film is on a strategy of using controlled fire to clear narrow strips of shrubs and grass in the periphery of a forest in order to prevent wild forest fires spreading and consuming the rest of the forest.
