Newton Heath and Moston is a single-platform tram stop on the Oldham and Rochdale Line of the Manchester Metrolink network. It serves Newton Heath and Moston in Manchester, England. It is located in an embankment east of Dean Lane.
This tram stop was converted from Dean Lane railway station which closed in 2009 as part of the conversion of the Oldham Loop railway line to Metrolink. The tram stop opened in its place in 2012.
History
Dean Lane railway station opened on 17 May 1880 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north east of Manchester Victoria along with the Oldham Loop Line section between Newton Heath and Oldham, and was operated and managed by Northern Rail in 2009 before its closure. There were once three stations in Newton Heath: Newton Heath, Dean Lane and Park. This station is 200 yards (180 m) away from Newton Heath TMD.
The station closed for conversion to Metrolink on 3 October 2009 and re-opened as a tram station on 13 June 2012 with only a single platform (in place of where the demolished Manchester-bound platform was) and a single track. The heavy rail single track adjacent allows Network Rail to access the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal facility nearby.
Service pattern
Services run every 12 minutes on all routes. Two routes serve this tram stop, therefore providing a 6-minute frequency between East Didsbury and Shaw and Crompton during peak times.
