    • Sanjay Kumar Verma (born 28 July 1965) is an Indian diplomat who was the High Commissioner of India to Canada. He previously served as the former Ambassador of India to Japan and the Marshall Islands, and Sudan.

      Sanjay Kumar Verma was born in Patna, Bihar, India, on 28 July 1965.


      Career




      = Early diplomatic career

      Verma joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1988 and has served in numerous key diplomatic postings in China, Vietnam, and Turkey. He also served as Consul General of India in Milan, Italy.


      = High Commissioner to Canada

      =
      Verma was India’s High Commissioner to Canada from September 2022 till October 2024. In this role, Verma was responsible for managing and strengthening India-Canada relations, which include overseeing diplomatic, trade, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
      Verma was involved in the Canada–India diplomatic row of 2023. Following Canadian allegations of involvement in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which he denies, Verma was expelled by the Canadian government.
