TV Azteca Guate is a Guatemalan free-to-air television channel operated in a joint venture by Mexican media conglomerate TV Azteca and Guatemalan television company Latitud Televisión.
History
The channel began operations on March 5, 2006, under the television company Latitud Televisión, operating channels 31 and 35 UHF in Guatemala City, they were owned by the Botrán family (owners of the liquor company Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala), in March 2008 the 70% of the company was acquired by Mexico's TV Azteca to operate in Guatemala under the Azteca 31 and Azteca 35 channels.
On September 6, 2013, the Azteca forums in Mixco's Zone 2, Guatemala Department, caught fire resulting in 14 injuries. The fire caused the destruction of all the forums which were very prone to incineration, because of this a chroma screen would be used to follow the transmissions.
During the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia, an agreement was reached with the Paraguayan company Tigo Sports which broadcast the 64 matches on free-to-air television, being the most watched channel in Guatemala during June–July 2018.
In 2019, it renewed its programming, including the transmission of the Guatemalan presidential elections, it also obtained the transmission rights of the friendly match between Guatemala and El Salvador. On March 6, the channel made a contract with Fedefut to broadcast the matches of the Guatemalan national team after annulling the contract with Chapín TV (Albavisión) media group.
In 2021, a new agreement was reached with Tigo Sports to broadcast the matches of the Futsal World Cup held in Lithuania, the Beach Soccer World Cup held in Russia and the 64 matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar.
