William Styron adalah Novelis dari Amerika Serikat, lahir di Virginia pada tahun 1925. Ia belajar dalam bidang penulisan di Duke University dan kemudian pindah ke New York untuk memulai karier sebagai penulis.
Pada tahun 1951, William Styron menerbitkan novel pertamanya yang berjudul Lie Down in Darkness. Ia kemudian ikut wajib miiter dalam Perang Korea.
Pengalaman Styron dalam marinir AS dituangkannya dalam novel selanjutnya, The Long March. Novel tersebut menceritakan perlakuan brutal terhadap anggota marinir dalam latihan mereka. Novel ini meraih kesuksesan besar sehingga sejak itu Styron menjadi terkenal dan semakin produktif melahirkan karya-karya berikutnya.
Karya Styron yang terkenal dan paling laku adalah Sophie's Choice.
