Aesculus hippocastanum adalah spesies tanaman berbunga dari famili Sapindaceae. Ini adalah pohon besar, meranggas, sinoecious (berbunga hermafrodit). Deskripsi
Aesculus hippocastanum adalah pohon besar, tumbuh setinggi sekitar 39 meter (128 kaki) dengan mahkota berbentuk kubah dengan cabang yang kokoh. Pada pohon tua, cabang luar sering kali terjumbai dengan ujung melengkung. Daunnya berseberangan dan majemuk seperti telapak tangan, dengan 5–7 helai daun dengan panjang 13–30 cm (5–12 inci), sehingga lebar keseluruhan daun mencapai 60 cm (24 inci), dengan tangkai daun berukuran 7–20 cm (3–8 inci). Bekas daun yang tertinggal di ranting setelah daun berguguran memiliki ciri khas berbentuk tapal kuda, lengkap dengan tujuh “paku”. Bunganya biasanya berwarna putih dengan bercak kuning hingga merah muda di dasar kelopak; bunga ini dihasilkan di musim semi dalam malai tegak setinggi 10–30 cm (4–12 inci) dengan sekitar 20–50 bunga di setiap malai. Serbuk sarinya tidak beracun bagi lebah madu. Biasanya hanya 1–5 buah yang tumbuh di setiap malai. Cangkangnya berbentuk kapsul runcing berwarna hijau yang berisi satu (jarang dua atau tiga) biji mirip kacang yang disebut conker atau kastanya kuda. Setiap conker berdiameter 2–4 cm (3⁄4–1+1⁄2 in), berwarna coklat kacang mengilap dengan bekas luka keputihan di dasarnya.
