Amniota (dari bahasa Yunani ἀμνίον amnion, "membran yang mengelilingi janin", sebelumnya "mangkuk di mana darah hewan kurban tertangkap", dari ἀμνός amnos, "domba") adalah klad vertebrata tetrapoda yang terdiri dari Synapsida (termasuk mamalia) dan Sauropsida (termasuk reptil dan burung) dan yang bertelur di darat atau mempertahankan telur dibuahi di dalam ibu. Mereka dibedakan oleh membran (amnion) yang melindungi embrio dan tidak memiliki tahap larva. Berkat hal ini, amniota telur di darat atau dikandung di dalam ibunya, tidak seperti anamniotes (ikan dan amfibi), yang biasanya bertelur di air. Sumber yang lebih tua, terutama sebelum abad ke-20, bisa merujuk ke amniota sebagai "vertebrata yang lebih tinggi" dan anamniotes sebagai "vertebrata yang lebih rendah", didasarkan pada gagasan didiskreditkan dari Rantai Keberadaan.
