Arnold Sheldon Denker (20 Februari 1914 – 2 Januari 2005) adalah seorang pemain catur Amerika Serikat. Denker dilahirkan di New York City. Pada tahun-tahun awalnya, ia adalah seorang petinju yang memberikan harapan besar.




Karier


Denker pertama-tama menarik perhatian dalam catur ketika ia memenangi kejuaraan antar sekolah individual di New York City pada usia 15 tahun pada 1929. Pada dasawarsa berikutnya ia membuktikan dirinya sebagai lawan utama Samuel Reshevsky dan Reuben Fine sebagai pemain catur terkuat AS. Pada 1940 Denker pertama kali memenangi kejuaraan Klub Catur Manhattan – dari enam kejuaraan yang sama yang pernah dimenanginya. Juga pada 1946 ia bermain dalam turnamen Groningen yang sangat kuat, dan memperoleh hasil 9,5/19 dan seri melawan Botvinnik dan Smyslov. Kehidupan pribadi
