Ascidiacea atau ascidia, yang umum dikenal sebagai semprot laut, adalah sebuah kelas parafiletik yang berada pada subfilum Tunicata, yang merupakan sekelompok hewan penyaring invertebrata laut mirip kantong. Ascidiacea dicirikan dengan selubung luar keras yang terbuat dari polisakarida.
Hewan-hewan ini dapat ditemukan diseluruh dunia, umumnya pada perairan dangkal dengan salinitas lebih dari 2.5%. Meski anggota dari Thaliacea (salp, doliolida dan pyrosoma) dan Appendicularia (larvacea) berenang bebas seperti plankton (planktonik), semprot laut adalah hewan sesil setelah masa larval mereka berakhir: Mereka tetap terjangkar ke substratum mereka, seperti cangkang atau batuan.
Terdapat 2300 spesies ascidia, dengan tiga jenis utama: ascidia soliter, ascidia sosial yang membentuk komunitas berdempetan dengan berjangkar pada dasar mereka, dan ascidia gabungan yang terdiri dari banyak individu kecil (zooid), membentuk koloni-koloni besar.
Semprot laut mendapat makanan dengan cara memompa air ke sebuah tabung yang bernama sifon oral. Air yang masuk menuju ke mulut dan faring, lalu mengalir melalui celah-celah insang yang tertutup lendir (stigmata faringial) lalu ke sebuah rongga yang disebut atrium, lalu keluar dari organisme melalui sifon atrial.
