Atlas Air ialah maskapai kargo yang bermarkas di Purchase, New York, Amerika Serikat, yang mengoperasikan penerbangan pengangkutan terjadwal atas dasar kontrak ACMI untuk beberapa penerbangan utama dunia, terbang ke 425 kota di 119 negara. Pangkalan krunya termasuk di: Bandara Internasional Miami, Bandara Internasional John F. Kennedy (New York), Bandara Internasional Los Angeles, dan Bandara Internasional Anchorage.
Sejarah
Maskapai ini didirikan pada bulan April 1992 oleh Michael Chowdry, mengkhususkan diri dalam outsourcing kontrak jangka panjang dari pesawat Boeing 747-nya. Maskapai ini mulai beroperasi pada tahun 1993 dengan 1 Boeing 747 dan dikontrak oleh China Airlines. Pada tahun 1995 keduanya mulai berdagang secara terbuka di NASDAQ, dan pada tahun 1997 muncul di New York Stock Exchange. Sebuah tawaran publik saham 4 juta dibuat pada bulan Agustus 1998. Pada tahun 2001 maskapai ini memperkenalkan program baru sewa dan layanan, berdasarkan pada model ACMI (Aircraft-Crew-Maintenance-insurance). Dengan program baru ini, pesawat kargo Atlas Air akan dapat dioperasikan maskapai lain seperti untuk penerbangan carter. Pada bulan Juli 2004 Atlas Air menyempurnakan rencana restrukturisasinya dan muncul dari perlindungan kebangkrutan Chapter 11. Sekarang, AAWWH mengumumkan bahwa DHL sudah membeli hak jangka panjang untuk mengangkut beberapa kargonya di pesawat Polar.
Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAWW) memiliki sepenuhnya Atlas Air, Polar Air Cargo, dan saham dari Global Supply Systems (49%).
Maskapai ini dinamai menurut Dewa Yunani terkenal, Atlas, yang menyangga dunia di bahunya. Lambang maskapai ini adalah seorang lelaki emas menyangga dunia emas.
