Azad Kashmir (bahasa Urdu:
آزاد جموں و کشمیر) adalah wilayah entititas politik yang dikuasai Pakistan bagian dari Jammu dan Kashmir, yang tidak lagi ada sebagai akibat dari perang Kashmir pertama. Bagian utara lebih besar dari dua entitas politik adalah wilayah Pakistan yang dikuasai Gilgit-Baltistan. Azad Jammu dan Kashmir berbatasan dengan negara bagian India Jammu dan Kashmir di sebelah timur (dipisahkan dari itu oleh Garis Kontrol ), Provindi Pakistan Khyber Pakhtunkhwa di sebelah barat, dan Punjab di selatan. Dengan ibu kota di Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu dan Kashmir meliputi wilayah seluas 13.297 kilometer persegi dan memiliki perkiraan populasi sekitar empat juta.

Sejarah
Pada saat partisi India 1947, Inggris menyerahkan keputusan kepada Princely State atau "wilayah kerajaan" untuk bergabung ke Pakistan atau India. Hary Singh, pada saat itu merupakan maharaja Jammu dan Kashmir, menginginkan wilayah Kashmir sebagai entitas berdaulat. Namun, penduduk muslim di wilayah Barat Jammu dan Kashmir ingin bergabung dengan Pakistan. Selain perbedaan ini, pemberontakan juga muncul dikarenakan ketidakpuasan masyarakat kepada maharaja yang membebankan pajak yang tinggi kepada masyarakat.
Pemerintahan
Azad Jammu dan Kashmir (AJK) adalah sebuah negara berpemerintahan sendiri di bawah kontrol Pakistan, tetapi di bawah konstitusi Pakistan yang seperti bagian dari Pakistan. Azad Kashmir memiliki presiden terpilih sendiri, perdana menteri, DPR, pengadilan tinggi, dan bendera resmi sendiri. Negara memiliki itu peradilan sendiri juga dengan Khawaja Shahad Ahmad sebagai Ketua MA Azad Kashmir sekarang.
