    Bagan (Bahasa Myanmar: ပုဂံ, dibaca bəɡàɴ), sebelumnya Pagan, adalah kota kuno di Divisi Mandalay, Myanmar pada abad ke-9 sampai abad ke-13, sebelumnya dijuluki Arimaddanapura atau Arimaddana dan juga disebut Tambadipa atau Tassadessa. Kota ini merupakan ibu kota Kerajaan Pagan di Burma, kerajaan pertama yang menyatukan wilayah-wilayah yang membuat konstitusi modern Myanmar. Selama Kerajaan-kerajaan berdiri bersamaan pada abad ke-11 dan abad ke-13, Lebih dari 10,000 kuil-kuil Buddha, Pagoda-pagoda dan biara-biara yang membangun Bagan, yang mana lebih dari 2200 kuil dan pagoda masih berdiri sampai dengan saat ini.
    Daerah Arkeologi Bagan merupakan tujuan utama wisatawan dan sebagai pariwisata utama di Myanmar. Hal ini terlihat dari banyaknya wisatawan tertarik ke Angkor Wat di Kamboja. *)


    Etimologi


    Bagan saat ini adalah standar pengucapan kata Pugan dari Bahasa Myanmar (ပုဂံ), diambil dari Bahasa Kuno Myanmar Pukam (ပုကမ်). Dengan nama Klasik dari Pali adalah Arimaddana-pura (အရိမဒ္ဒနာပူရ, arti. "Kota yang Menginjak-injak musuh"). Nama lain di Pali merujuk kepada daerah dengan iklim kemarau yang ekstrem: Tattadesa (တတ္တဒေသ, "Tanah Kering"), dan Tampadipa (တမ္ပဒီပ, "Negara perunggu"). Sejarah Myanmar juga melaporkan nama-nama klasik lainnya, yaitu Thiri Pyissaya (သီရိပစ္စယာ) dan Tampawaddy (တမ္ပဝတီ).
