Barbara Rae-Venter (lahir 17 Juli 1948) adalah genealogis, biologis dan pensiunan pengacara paten dari Selandia Baru. Aktivitas pengacaranya karena pekerjaanya membantu polisi dan penyelidi mengidentifikasi Joseph James DeAngelo sebagai Golden State Killer.




Kehidupan awal


Barbara Rae lahir pada tanggal 17 Juli 1948 di Auckland, Selandia Baru. dan tumbuh di Remuera, Auckland. Dia pindah ke Amerika Serikat pada umur 20 tahun. dan memiliki kewarganegaraan Amerika Serikat.

Paul Holes yang merupakan seorang penyelidik telah bekerja untuk kasus Golden State Killer untuk berdekade. Pada awalnya, Rae-Venter pada bulan Maret 2017 untuk menggunakan pencarian genealogi untuk mencari petunjuk baru untuk kasus ini. Pada bulan Oktober 2017, Rae-Venter berkontribusi terhadap tim untuk mencoba mengidentifikasi pembunuhnya. Rae-Venter menggunakan GEDmatch, Family Tree DNA dan MyHeritage dan memberikan bantuan terhadap usaha pencarian melalui genetika. Tim tersebut meghisolasi sampel DNA dari lokasi kejadian pembunuhan Golden State Killer untuk menciptakan profil DNA yang bisa diunggah ke basis data genealogi untuk menghasilkan hasil positif terhadap saudara jauh yang cocok sehingga Rae-Venter bisa membuat pohon keluarga menggunakan teknik penelitian keluarga tradisional. Dengan mengidentifikasi saudara pembunuh, penyelidik bisa pertama kali bekerja untuk menemukan nenek moyang yang sama dan untuk mengidentikasi semua generasi muda dari keluarga tersebut. Ketika semya anggota dapat keluarga telah diidentifikasi, penyeldika bisa memulai mengeliminasi individu yang bukan merupakan tersangka. Pada kasus Golden State Killer, tim ini harus mencari nenek-nenek moyang sebelum bekerja lebih lanjut. Beberapa silsilah dibutuhkan untuk mengkonstruksi kejadian ini. Informasi ini nanti digabungkan dengan prediksi etnis dan penampilan pisik untuk mempersempit daftar tersangka. Beberapa bukti mulai disatukan ketika profil genetika mulai dipertimbangka, termasuk kemungkinan bahwa tersangka memiliki keturunan Bangsa Italia . Setelah tersangka berhasil diidentifikasi, sampel DNA baru dikoleksi dari tersangka dengan sembunyi dan diuji terhadap sampel lokasi kejadian peristiwa. Sampel yang diduga cocok dengan pembunuh yang berhasil menenetukan identitas pelaku. Joseph DeAngelo dipenjara pada tanggal 24 April 2018.
