    BTR-4 adalah kendaraan lapis baja amfibi 8×8 yang dikembangkan dan diprdouksi Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau (KMDB) untuk Angkatan Darat Ukraina. Didorong dengan dua jet air hingga mampu berenang dengan kecepatan 0kmph dan dapat didukung oleh baik 3TD dua-stroke atau Deutz mesin diesel empat langkah.
    Di kendaraan itu dapat dipasang berbagai stasiun senjata seperti peluncur granat, rudal anti tank, dan senapan mesin 7.62mm. BTR-4 tahan dari tembakan senjata kaliber kecil otomatis dan menggunakan armor untuk perlindungan tingkat tinggi. Desain modular memungkinkan berbagai konfigurasi seperti lapis baja pengangkut personil (APC), IFV, kendaraan komando, ambilan lapis baja hingga pemadam kebakaran.


    Persenjataan


    Dalam konfigurasi standar, BTR-4 dilengkapi dengan stasiun senjata GROM yang terdiri dari senjata 30 mm dengan 360 putaran, peluncur granat otomatis 30 mm dengan 150 putaran, senapan mesin 7,62 mm dengan 1.200 putaran dan 4 peluncur rudal anti tank Konkurs dan Baryer. Selain dilengkapi dengan stasiun senjata GROM, BTR-4 juga dapat dilengkapi dengan stasiun senjata Shkval atau BAU 23x4. Modul Shkval terdiri dari senjata 30 mm dengan 360 putaran, peluncur granat 30 mm dengan 150 putaran, senapan mesin 7,62 mm dengan 2.000 putaran dan dua rudal anti-tank Konkurs atau Baryer. Sedangkan BAU 23x2 terdiri dari dua senjata otomatis 23 mm dengan 400 putaran dan satu senapan mesin 7,62 mm dengan 2.000 putaran.


    Desain



    BTR-4 berdimensi panjang 7,65 m, lebar 2,9 m, tinggi 2,93 m dan dan berbobot 17,5 ton. Tata letak kendaraan ini mirip dengan kendaraan lapis baja Pandur (Austria), Piranha (Swiss), dan Patria AMV (Finlandia) - pengemudi dan komandan duduk di depan lambung, mesin di tengah, pasukan berada di belakang. Pasukan keluar-masuk melakui pintu belakang.
    Lambung BTR-4 terdiri dari tiga kompartemen yaitu kompartemen depan yang merupakan stasiun mengemudi, kompartemen tengah sebagai 'powerplant' kendaraan, dan kompartemen belakang yang merupakan kompartemen personel.


    Lapisan pelindung


    BTR-4 versi standar menawarkan perlindungan balistik terhadap senjata api kaliber menengah. Juga dapat dilengkapi dengan add-on armour, yang akan memberikan perlindungan yang lebih optimal. Kendaraan ini memiliki desain perlindungan modular. BTR-4 terlindung dari senapan mesin 7,62 mm dari jarak berapa pun. Selain itu, set perlindungan tambahan juga dapat dipasang tergantung kondisi operasi. Misalnya untuk kondisi perkotaan, ditambahkan set perlindungan khusus untuk meningkatkan perlindungan terhadap peluncur granat dan ranjau. Sedangkan untuk penggunaan di daerah terbuka, ditambahkan perlindungan balistik dari amunisi kaliber hingga 30 mm.


    Mobilitas dan aksesoris



    BTR-4 bisa mengadopsi beberapa jenis mesin. Namun standar BTR-4 menggunakan mesin diesel 3TD two-stroke buatan Ukraina, dengan daya maksimum 500 hp (juga tersedia 600 hp). Memberikannya kecepatan maksimum dan jangkauan masing-masing 110 km/jam dan 690 km. Salah satu mesin lain yang bisa dilengkapkan pada BTR-4 adalah mesin diesel DEUTZ 4-stroke. Sedangkan untuk operasi amfibi, kendaraan ini didukung oleh waterjet.
    BTR-4 dilengkapi dengan sistem perlindungan dari bahaya nuklir, biologi dan kimia (NBC). BTR-4 sepenuhnya kendaraan amfibi, didorong didalam air dengan dua baling-baling yang terpasang di sisi belakang lambung. Sedangkan pengemudinya dilengkapi dengan sistem penglihatan siang dan malam


    Varian



    BTR-4K. Kendaraan pos komando dengan perlengkapan komunikasi modern, tujuh awak dan berbobot 20 ton.
    BTR-4Ksh. Kendaraan komando dan staf dengan bobot 18 ton.
    BRM-4K. Kendaraan pengintai dengan enam awak, lengkap dengan peralatan intai dan berbobot 20,7 ton.
    BREM-4K. Kendaraan repair and recovery lengkap dengan crane dan winch yang diawaki oleh 4 personel.
    BSEM-4K. Kendaraan ambulans dengan bobot 18,6 ton.
    MPO-4K. Kendaraan dukungan tempur dengan senjata 120 mm (40 putaran) dan berbobot 21 ton.
    BTR-4 BAU. Dengan dua senjata 23 mm pada turret.
