The Buick straight-8 engine (Fireball 8) was a straight-eight cylinder automobile engine produced from 1931 to 1953 by the Buick division of General Motors. It replaced the Buick Straight-6 engine across the board in all models on its debut.

It is now being reproduced for the traditional rods in a HEI form and adverised in the hot rod magazines.I dont think they have a Straight 8 Buick one but the Pontiac HEI is almost a clone of the old Buick distributor, [cept the pontiac rotates opposite way]

29 Des 2005 · If the straight 8 engine is attached to a Dynaflow, that means it has to be a 1948 to 1953 engine. If the exhaust manifold is in three sections (front, center, rear) then it is probably a 320 cubic inch, or "large" engine, from a Roadmaster.
29 Feb 2012 · The 1934 Series 40 was an all new car and fitted with a newly designed engine while the bigger Series cars continued on with the same engine design as introduced in 1931 ( until 1936 ). The power to weight ratio meant the Series 40 could outrun ALL other 1934/35 Buick models and is credited as saving Buick from closure.
04 Jan 2021 · Buick Straight 8 engine numbers have a pattern and that pattern changed in the 40's (I think). On the early engines the first number was hand stamped and represented the model of the car. A 4 for Special, a 6 for Century, a 8 for Roadmaster and a 9 for Limited.

25 Jan 2016 · As noted, the oil filtration system would need to be "full-flow", too. With the more precise and computerized engine machining of modern times, better synthetic oils, better oil filters, and total engine "sealing" from outside environmental situations, this improved Buick I-8 should "last forever" with 5000K mile oil and filter changes.

16 Mei 2014 · The flywheel will mount in any position on the straight eight, all old motor repair manuals tell you to mark the location before removing. The 48 is different but will work in a 41 by changing the front mounting plate. The 48 and later mounts are near the center of the engine. I think the hydraulic lifters were in the automatic not stick.
