    Carol W. Greider (lahir 15 April 1961) adalah seorang profesor di Universitas Johns Hopkins, Amerika Serikat yang terlahir dari keluarga akademisi. Ibu kandung Carol meninggal ketika ia masih berumur 7 tahun dan menyebabkan Carol terbiasa menjadi seorang wanita yang mandiri sejak belia hingga kini. Walaupun terlahir dari keluarga akademisi, Carol kerap menemukan kesulitan dalam menerima pelajaran di sekolah karena disleksia yang ia miliki. Namun, hal tersebut tidak berangsur lama ketika ada seorang guru yang menyadari ketertarikan Carol terhadap pelajaran Biologi.


    Kehidupan


    Selepas sekolah menengah, Carol melanjutkan studinya hingga meraih gelar Ph.D. dari Universitas California, Berkeley pada tahun 1987 di bawah bimbingan Elizabeth Blackburn. Setelah resmi mendapat gelar Ph.D., Carol kemudian melanjutkan risetnya serta menjadi profesor di Universitas Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, Maryland, Amerika Serikat.


    Penghargaan


    Pada tahun 1984, Carol Greider meneliti bagaimana kromosom dapat disalin dan terlindungi secara sempurna saat pembelahan sel. Carol menyelesaikan penelitian tersebut bersama Elizabeth Blackburn dan Jack Stozak dengan hasil temuan bahwa kromosom dilindungi oleh telomer dan enzim telomerase yang menghasilkan DNA dari telomer tersebut.
    Pada tahun 2009, Greider mendapat Penghargaan Nobel Fisiologi atau Kedokteran bersama dengan Elizabeth Blackburn dan Jack W. Szostak atas penemuan enzim telomerase dan telomer yang dapat melindungi kromosom.
