CMSimple adalah sebuah sistem manajemen konten yang menggunakan PHP sebagai bahasa pemrograman dengan peladen web berupa Apache HTTP Server pada Linux atau Internet Information Services (IIS) pada Win32. Lisensi yang diterapkan untuk CMSimple meliputi persyaratan GPL3.
CMSimple tidak membutuhkan pangkalan data karena setiap data akan tersimpan langsung pada berkas HTML dalam peladen web. Tidak adanya pangkalan data memudahkan proses instalasi dan pencadangan data serta menghemat kebutuhan hosting bagi CMSimple. Konfigurasi data dan bahasa juga disimpan dalam format teks. Seperti umumnya sistem manajemen konten lainnya, CMSimple menawarkan berbagai plug-in, yang dibuat oleh pihak ketiga.
Struktur
Tampilan atau tema situs CMSimple disimpan dalam berkas berformat templat menggunakan HTML dan CSS. Tampilan atau tema ini dapat dipilih pada saat instalasi ataupun dapat pula diunduh secara terpisah oleh CMSimple. Terdapat lebih dari 500 templat gratis yang disediakan. Perancangan tema yang unik dapat diserahkan pada pihak ketiga. Semua pesan kesalahan dan string teks disimpan dalam sebuah berkas teks biasa. Ada banyak bahasa pengantar yang disediakan CMSimple ini, dan dapat diterjemahkan ke bahasa lokal pengguna. Jika diperlukan dukungan, instalasi dapat membuat perubahan yang diperlukan pada mesin dengan spesifikasi rendah atau jarak jauh.
Sebuah situs dasar, menggunakan templat bawaan, dapat diunggah ke peladen, dikonfigurasi, dan diisi dengan teks yang sudah ada dalam waktu 20 menit. Template kustomisasi membutuhkan waktu lebih banyak, dan membutuhkan pengetahuan tentang HTML dan CSS. Beberapa ratus templat disediakan secara gratis.
Perizinan atau Lisensi
Pada tanggal 31 Desember 2009, CMSimple dirilis di bawah Lisensi Publik Umum GNU. Sebelumnya, CMSimple bersifat komersial dan dijual. Dengan menampilkan tautan CMSimple di sebuah situs web, maka CMSimple bebas untuk digunakan, dan lisensi GPL Affero diterapkan; sebaliknya jika tautan tadi dihapus, lisensi harus dibeli. Sebuah komunitas pengguna memberikan dukungan melalui forum dan wiki. Sekitar 2.500 lisensi yang dibeli pada Desember 2008.
Dukungan
Dukungan bisa diperoleh melalui web forum dan versi affero oleh sebuah web forum, dengan lebih dari 1000 peserta. Bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa utama yang digunakan namun tersedia pula dukungan dalam bahasa Denmark, bahasa Jerman, bahasa Prancis, bahasa Spanyol dan bahasa Brasil. Sebuah buku telah diterbitkan di Denmark, Byg et website, Britt Malka, ISBN 87-7843-711-3.
Versi saat ini CMSimple_XH 1.1 dirilis 2010/01/15. Ini adalah versi standar yang sesuai dengan spesifikasi XHTML.
Contoh situs berbasis CMSimple
Beberapa situs menggunakan sistem manajemen konten CMSimple, salah satunya adalah situs Download Linux, situs yang dibangun menggunakan templat standar dengan modifikasi CSS. Ada pula yang digunakan sebagai blog, sebagai contoh pada situs blog cidtux.net situs ini menggunakan template standar CMSimple dengan tambahan sistem komentar dan pengumpan RSS (RSS feed).
