Day kemudian membuka sebuah "rumah keramahan" di daerah kumuh New York City.
Otobiografinya The Long Loneliness (Kesepian yang panjang) diterbitkan pada 1952. Catatannya tentang gerakan Catholic Worker, Loaves and Fishes (Roti dan Ikan), diterbitkan pada 1963. Sebuah film populer bernama Entertaining Angels:The Dorothy Day Story (Melayani Malaikat: Cerita tentang Dorothy Day) diproduksi pada 1996 tentang hidup dan perjuangan Day. Film dokumenternya yang pertama dan lengkap tentang dia, "Dorothy Day: Don't Call Me a Saint" ("Jangan panggil aku orang kudus"), ditayangkan di Universitas Marquette pada 29 November 2005. Buku catatan harian dan korespondensinya yakni The Duty of Delight: The Diaries of Dorothy Day dan All the Way to Heaven: The Selected Letters of Dorothy Day, yang masing-masing dirilis pada 2008 dan 2010, sempat disegel selama 25 tahun setelah kematiannya.
