DreadOut adalah sebuah permainan video horor kesintasan asal Indonesia yang dikembangkan oleh Digital Happiness untuk Windows, Mac OS X dan Linux. Permainan ini telah lolos seleksi Steam Greenlight dan tersedia untuk dibeli dalam layanan Steam.




Sistem permainan


DreadOut adalah permainan horor kesintasan orang ketiga yang berlatar di Indonesia. Karakter utama, Linda, menggunakan gadget modern, seperti kamera video digital dan ponsel untuk berinteraksi dengan berbagai macam hantu mistis Indonesia, membantunya memecahkan berbagai teka-teki di sebuah kota yang ditinggalkan penghuninya. Ketika Linda "pingsan" dalam permainan ini, ia akan terbangun dalam kegelapan dikelilingi oleh lilin dengan cahaya terang di kejauhan. Dengan menjalankannya menuju cahaya, Linda akan sadar kembali.
Permainan ini akan menampilkan baik skema kontrol orang-ketiga dan orang-pertama. Pemain melakukan navigasi dalam permainan dengan perspektif kamera belakang-bahu, tetapi akan beralih ke perspektif orang-pertama setiap kali pemain memutuskan untuk menggunakan kamera digital untuk memotret sesuatu. Sebuah video pratinjau terbaru menunjukkan versi tablet dari permainan ini, di mana Linda sedang dikontrol melalui interaksi sentuh dan menggunakan perspektif kamera tetap yang mirip dengan permainan Fatal Frame.




Alur cerita


Ketika sekelompok murid SMA tersesat dari perjalanan liburan mereka, mereka menemukan sebuah kota tua yang telah ditinggalkan. Mereka segera menyadari sesuatu yang jahat akan terjadi. Linda, protagonis permainan ini, menyadari sesuatu yang aneh dan mistis terjadi pada dirinya. Dia memperoleh kekuatan supernatural yang bisa menyelamatkan dia dan teman-temannya dari ancaman supernatural asing.




Pengembangan


Rachmad Imron, pendiri Digital Happiness, telah merintis gim DreadOut sejak 2010, bahkan sebelum studio gamenya berdiri. Saat itu, Imron sudah menggarap animasi dan tayangan 3 dimensi di perusahaan miliknya sendiri, Iris Desain.
Pengembangan permainan DreadOut memakan waktu hingga 2 tahun, dan menghabiskan Rp 300 juta lebih untuk membayar upah pegawai dan pekerja kontrak, sampai berhasi meluncurkan demo-nya pada 1 April 2013.
Digital Happiness mengerjakan game ini menggunakan tim yang terdiri dari sekitar 20 orang. Setelah merilis demo, mereka mencari kampanye crowdsourcing melalui Indiegogo. Kampanye mereka meminta US$25.000 dan berakhir dengan US$29.067. Mereka membutuhkan crowd sourcing karena industri game di Indonesia kecil dan sebagian besar berfokus pada game sosial atau mobile dan tidak dapat menemukan pendanaan. Pendiri Digital Happiness, Rachmad Imron menyatakan: "Kami memiliki banyak sumber daya manusia yang baik tetapi kebanyakan dari mereka pergi ke luar negeri karena tidak ada industri game di Indonesia, tetapi kami berharap ini akan segera berubah."




Adaptasi film


Pada tahun 2018, Perushaan produksi Indonesia GoodHouse mengumumkan adaptasi film Dreadout. Film ini dirilis di Indonesia pada 3 Januari 2019. Film ini disutradarai oleh Kimo Stamboel. dan dibintangi oleh Caitlin Halderman, Jefri Nichol, Marsha Aruan, Ciccio Manassero, Susan Sameh, dan Irsyadillah.
