Edirne (bahasa Turki: [e.ˈdiɾ.ne]), secara historis dikenal dengan nama Adrianopel (bahasa Yunani: Αδριανούπολις, translit. Adrianoúpolis), adalah kota di Turki, tepatnya di provinsi Edirne bagian barat laut, daerah Trakia Timur. Berjarak 7 km (4,3 mi) dari perbatasan Yunani dan 20 km (12 mi) dari Bulgaria, kota Edirne adalah ibu kota kedua Kesultanan Utsmaniyah sejak tahun 1369 hingga 1453, sebelum ibu kota dipindahkan ke Konstantinopel.
Kota ini adalah pusat komersial untuk produk tekstil tenun, sutra, karpet dan pertanian dan mempunyai industri pariwisata yang berkembang. Kota ini adalah ibu kota Provinsi Edirne dan Distrik Edirne. Populasinya berjumlah 180.002 jiwa (2022).
Kota ini terkenal di Turki karna hidangan berbahan hati hewani. Ciğer tava (hati hewani yang ditaburi tepung roti dan digoreng rendam) seringkali disajikan dengan cacık, sepiring yogurt yunani encer dengan irisan mentimun.
Dalam pemilihan daerah pada 31 Maret 2023, pengacara Filiz Gencan Akin terpilih menjadi wali kota baru kota Edirne, menggantikan Recep Gürkan, yang telah menjadi wali kota selama 10 tahun dan tidak kembali mencalonkan diri.




Nama dan etimologi



Kota ini didirikan dengan nama Hadrianopolis (Adrianopel dalam bahasa Indonesia; Ἁδριανούπολις dalam bahasa Yunani) dan dinamakan berdasarkan kaisar Romawi Hadrianus di situs kota Yunani bernama Orestias, yang pada gilirannya didirikan di permukiman Trakia bernama Uskudama. Nama Utsmaniyah Edrine (ادرنه) berasal dari nama Yunani-nya. Nama Adrianople dulunya digunakan dalam bahasa Inggris hingga Turki mengadopsi aksara Latin pada tahun 1928, setelah itu Edirne menjadi nama yang digunakan dunia internasional.
