An exploded-view drawing is a diagram, picture, schematic or technical drawing of an object, that shows the relationship or order of assembly of various parts.
It shows the components of an object slightly separated by distance, or suspended in surrounding space in the case of a three-dimensional exploded diagram. An object is represented as if there had been a small controlled explosion emanating from the middle of the object, causing the object's parts to be separated an equal distance away from their original locations.
The exploded-view drawing is used in parts catalogs, assembly and maintenance manuals and other instructional material.
The projection of an exploded view is usually shown from above and slightly in diagonal from the left or right side of the drawing. (See exploded-view drawing of a gear pump to the right: it is slightly from above and shown from the left side of the drawing in diagonal.)

Hi, I am trying to display assembly in exploded view in a drawing (drawing view properties) but “show in exploded view” box is greyed-out and can’t be selected.
May 13, 2008 · I have a drawing view that is displaying an assembly in an exploded state. The drawing works fine, rebuilds well and is fully resolved. I need to modify the explode steps to add a component to the assembly so I opened up the assembly. It rebuilt and resolved fine.
The detail view circles are just hanging off in space by themselves, resulting in empty detail views. I've tried: 1) RMB on view -> Properties but the "Show in exploded state" button is grayed out. 2) Opened the assembly to check it, the exploded view is perfectly fine. I have a drawing isometric view of an exploded assembly and it is cutting off the top of the view. If I unexplode the view, then it fits and centers in the view window. Also if I move the view, it will show the entire assembly until I click off of the view. Is there a way to recenter the view window while exploded to fix the glitch?
I have exploded and added explode lines to an assembly. However, I cannot get the drawing to display the explode lines. I can turn the explode lines on and off in the assembly by hiding or showing the 3D sketch called ExplView1in the Configurations tab, but no such tab or sketch is available from the drawing space.
The OLD reference design was visible in the view, but the dimensions were pointing to the NEW design. There are no errors in the drawing or in the models. I have exploded model views with sketch lines but the lines are not showing on the drawing views. I have turned on/off the "view sketches" option (it worked in 2014) but it does not help. Just installed 2016 SW but I don't know if that's the issue.
Feb 1, 2018 · When I make an exploded view and I have to modify positions later sometimes the parts will "bounce back" to their original position after modifying other stuff. If I edit an exploded step to add/remove features, other exploded steps move back to a previous position. If I modify the exploded line sketch I will have the same problem.

Mar 6, 2013 · Using SW2013 SP0. I have created an exploded view of an assembly and placed the exploded view in a drawing. The view in the drawing is at a custom view and not a preset view (like ISO, etc.). The drawing has a BOM already inserted. When I go to add balloons, either auto or manually, the balloons point to edges that don't exist.
