    Sejarah


    Grindr diluncurkan pada tanggal 25 Maret 2009 oleh Nearby Buddy Finder, LLC. Awalnya, komentar memperingatkan namun positif dilontarkan oleh kalangan blogger gay melalui situs-situs seperti Queerty dan Joe My God.
    Meskipun berbasis di Amerika Serikat, aplikasi ini dengan cepat meraih kepopuleran di seluruh dunia melalui perbincangan dari mulut ke mulut dan berbagai media. Pada 18 Juni 2012, Grindr mengumumkan bahwa mereka telah memiliki 4 juta pengguna yang tersebar di 192 negara di seluruh dunia, dengan 1,1 juta pengguna yang online setiap harinya. Selain AS dan Australia, pendiri Grindr Joel Simkhai melaporkan tingginya aktivitas aplikasi di Iran, Israel, India, dan Kazakhstan.     Grindr Xtra adalah Grindr versi berbayar dan bebas iklan yang memanfaatkan fitur Apple Push Notification Service pada iOS. Selain itu, Grindr Xtra menawarkan beragam fitur yang tidak terdapat pada Grindr gratis, seperti memuat lebih dari 300 pengguna sekaligus, memilih untuk menampilkan pengguna yang sedang online saja, dan fitur blok yang tidak terbatas. Pengguna memiliki pilihan untuk memperbarui status berlangganan mereka melalui iTunes dalam satu-, tiga-, enam-, dan dua belas bulan pembelian.

Grindr increased the price for Xtra by about 400% where I live - I’m not sure if it was globally, so I paid for Scruff instead. It’s just a shame that it has about 10% of the userbase at most.
