Guillotine adalah sebuah alat untuk memancung seseorang yang telah divonis hukuman mati dengan cepat dan 'manusiawi'.
Guillotine menjadi terkenal pada Revolusi Prancis, tetapi sebenarnya sebelumnya sudah ada alat seperti ini. Guillotine dinamakan menurut Joseph Ignace Guillotin (1738–1814), yang menyarankan supaya memakai alat ini sebagai alat eksekusi. Ironisnya ia sendiri sebenarnya tidak setuju dengan hukuman mati. Ia berharap bahwa alat'nya' akan menghapuskan hukuman mati.
Pada fase awal Revolusi Perancis, sebelum penggunaan guillotine, slogan À la Lanterne melambangkan keadilan rakyat di Perancis yang revolusioner. Kaum radikal revolusioner menggantung pejabat dan bangsawan di lampu jalan dan juga menggunakan metode eksekusi yang lebih mengerikan, seperti roda atau pembakaran di tiang pancang.
Pada Revolusi Prancis, dibutuhkan sebuah alat yang mampu mengeksusi para terdakwa secara cepat. Guillotine ini mencukupi persyaratan ini, maka alat ini ditempatkan di tengah pasar setiap desa di Prancis.
Pada tanggal 25 April 1792, Nicolas Jacques Pelletier adalah korban pertama guillotine. Secara total pada Revolusi Prancis puluhan ribu orang dieksekusi menggunakan alat ini. Di Paris sendiri saja diperkirakan 40.000 orang dibunuh dengan guillotine, antara lain Raja Louis XVI dan istrinya Marie Antoinette.
Guillotine dirancang untuk membuat sebuah eksekusi semanusiawi mungkin dengan menghalangi sakit sebanyak mungkin. Terdakwa disuruh tidur tengkurap dan leher ditaruh di antara dua balok kayu di mana di tengah ada lubang tempat jatuhnya pisau. Pada ketinggian tujuh meter, pisau dijatuhkan oleh algojo dan kepala terdakwa jatuh di sebuah keranjang di depannya.
Pemenggalan kepala dengan guillotine hanya berlangsung beberapa detik saja. Pendapat para dokter pada awal yang katanya orang baru kehilangan kesadarannya setelah 30 detik dihiraukan. Menurut pendapat para dokter modern, otak seseorang maksimal hanya bisa sadar selama 10 detik saja.
Eksekusi dengan guillotine kala itu menjadi tontonan umum, tetapi kemudian guillotine ditaruh di dalam penjara karena dianggap sangat kejam. Terdakwa terakhir yang dihukum mati dengan alat ini adalah Hamida Djandoubi. Ia dieksekusi di Marseille pada tanggal 10 September 1977.

Jan 20, 2025 · Three might be less than normal, but one year does not make a trend. The last 2 year were probably better senior classes than normal years as far as national rankings and there are a lot of younger college kids on D1, D2, and D3 rosters from Minnesota.
I've got Falling Guillotine with Whirlwind blade, but I'm a bit confused as to the best way to use it. I generally try to spin, but the damage seems to fluctuate for some reason. I've just nearly one-shot a Barrier Champion in Contact with a single spin, but then those same Barrier Champions would take about 1/5th of their HP per spin.
