Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity adalah permainan video hack and slash mendatang untuk Nintendo Switch yang dikembangkan oleh Omega Force dan diterbitkan oleh Koei Tecmo di Jepang dan oleh Nintendo di seluruh dunia. Dalam hal gameplay, permainan ini adalah sekuel dari Hyrule Warriors tahun 2014. Sedangkan cerita game ini juga merupakan prekuel dan menampilkan karakter-karakter dari The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Game ini dirilis pada 20 November 2020.




Gameplay


Seperti game Hyrule Warriors yang pertama, Age of Calamity menggabungkan gameplay hack and slash dari seri permainan Dynasty Warriors milik Koei Tecmo dengan latar, karakter, dan elemen-elemen lain dari seri The Legend of Zelda milik Nintendo. Selain menampilkan sistem pertempuran, pembuatan material, dan peningkatan senjata dari Hyrule Warriors, game ini juga menggabungkan sistem pemecahan puzzle dan penggunaan alat Sheikah Slate dari Breath of the Wild. Karakter yang terkonfirmasi dapat dimainkan antara lain Link, Zelda; para Champions, yaitu Daruk, Mipha, Revali, dan Urbosa; dan seorang pejuang Sheikah bernama Impa. Game ini juga akan memiliki kompatibilitas dengan figur-figur amiibo, dengan figurin empat Champion akan dirilis ulang bersamaan dengan game.
Pemain dapat mengumpulkan sumber daya untuk mengakses area-area baru, membuat senjata, dan memasak makanan yang akan memberikan buff pada pemain. Berbeda dengan Breath of the Wild, senjata dalam game ini tidak akan hancur seiring penggunaan. Peta dalam game ini mirip dengan peta untuk game Breath of the Wild. Pemain dapat memilih stage dari peta tersebut. Menara Sheikah yang ada dalam game bisa digunakan untuk menjelajahi wilayah-wilayah di peta.




Plot



Permainan ini berlatar 100 tahun sebelum peristiwa game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Game ini menceritakan tentang "Great Calamity", perang besar antara tentara Hyrule melawan pasukan Calamity Ganon yang sebelumnya telah disebutkan dalam Breath of the Wild.




Pengembangan


Game ini terungkap melalui trailer yang dirilis pada 8 September 2020, dipersembahkan oleh produser seri Zelda Eiji Aonuma dan produser Koei Tecmo, Yosuke Hayashi. Game ini memiliki aset seni yang sama dengan Breath of the Wild, tetapi menggunakan gaya gameplay yang lebih terfokus pada pertempuran seperti game Hyrule Warriors sebelumnya. Informasi lebih lanjut diungkapkan di Tokyo Game Show pada 26 September.
Menurut Hayashi, game tersebut dibuat karena Aonuma memiliki ide untuk membuat game Hyrule Warriors baru yang menceritakan tentang peristiwa Great Calamity, yang belum ditampilkan dengan benar di Breath of the Wild. Aonuma merasa bahwa gaya pertempurannya akan cocok dengan gaya permainan Hyrule Warriors. Para developer Zelda bekerja lebih dekat lagi dengan tim developer Koei Tecmo, memberikan saran dan bantuan tentang direksi gameplay, grafik, dunia, dan dialog di game Age of Calamity.
Selama presentasi Nintendo Treehouse Live pada 7 Oktober, Nintendo menyatakan bahwa game ini akan lebih mengeksplorasi latar belakang cerita dan hubungan-hubungan antara satu karakter dengan karakter yang lain, karena aspek tersebut tidak diceritakan secara menyeluruh dalam Breath of the Wild. Di akhir Oktober, demo game ini tersedia untuk diunduh gratis di Nintendo eShop. Demo ini berisi chapter pertama game dan pemain dapat mentransfer data penyimpanan saat game utama dirilis.
