Jacques Cartier (Saint-Malo, Prancis, 31 Desember 1491 - 1 September 1557) adalah penjelajah berkebangsaan Prancis yang menurut pendapat umum adalah salah satu penemu utama Kanada, atau lebih tepatnya, wilayah-dalam yang akan menjadi bagian wilayah awal yang akan menjadi negeri tersebut.
Raja Prancis François I memilihnya untuk menemukan certaines îles et pays où l'on dit qu'il se doit trouver grande quantité d'or et autres riches choses ("pulau dan tanah yang konon memiliki sejumlah besar emas dan kekayaan lain"). Pada 1534 ia bertolak untuk mencari jalur barat ke Asia. Setelah melewati musim dingin yang parah di Kanada, ia kembali ke Prancis tahun berikutnya. Sebagian besar pelaut meninggal akibat scurvy ketika kapalnya terperangkap dalam es tanpa makanan cukup. Cartier harus meminta penduduk pribumi untuk obat tradisional setempat, yang diberikan. Cartier melewatkan sisa hidupnya di Saint-Malo dan rumahnya di dekat situ, dan wafat pada 1557.
