Jessica Watson merupakan seorang pelaut perempuan yang mencatatkan dirinya sebagai pelaut wanita termuda yang mengarungi tujuh lautan di usianya yang ke 16 tahun. Jessica lahir di Queensland’s Gold Coast pada 18 Mei 1993. Dia melakukan pelayaran solo selama 210 hari nonstop di lautan pada tahun 2009-2010. Setelah pelayarannya tersebut dia dijuluki Pahlawan Australia oleh Perdana Menteri Australia.
Pendidikan
Setelah melakukan pelayarannya mengelilingi dunia, Jessica melanjutkan pendidikannya yang telah lama dia tinggal. Jessica telah menyelesaikan pendidikannya dan mendapat gelar MBA (Master of Business Administration) di Australian Institute of Management. Selama perkuliahan pun Jessica berkontribusi dalam program yang diselenggarakan PBB yaitu United Nations World Food Programme.
Perjalanan
Sejak kecil, Jessica dan saudara-saudaranya sudah terbiasa dengan kehidupan laut dan diajarkan mengenai pelayaran. Selama lima tahun keluarga Watson tinggal di kabin kapal. Meskipun begitu, pada awalnya ibu Jessica mengira dia tidak memiliki ketertarikan terhadap laut dan pelayaran. Tetapi seiring berjalannya waktu Jessica mulai menunjukkan ketertarikannya pada kehidupan laut. Hingga di usianya ke 14 dia menyelesaikan pengalaman berlayar 6000 mil pantai dan 6000 mil laut, dan memperoleh kualifikasi dalam keselamatan lepas pantai, mesin diesel, operasi radio, laut, dan keselamatan, pertolongan pertama dan teori master kapal pesiar. Dia menjadi awak di sejumlah kapal, termasuk bertindak sebagai nakhoda yang melintasi Laut Tasman. Pada 18 Oktober 2009, lima bulan setelah hari ulang tahunnya ke 16, bersama Ella's Pink Lady, kapalnya, Watson melakukan pelayaran solo mengelilingi dunia selama 210 hari nonstop.
