Kalam (κάλαμος kalamos; jamak bahasa Yunani: κάλαμοι kalamoi) adalah sejenis alat tulis yang terbuat dari setangkai gelagah atau sebatang buluh yang dipotong dan diraut. Kalam mirip pena berujung belah telah ditemukan di situs-situs Mesir Kuno yang berasal dari abad ke-4 SM. Kalam digunakan untuk menulis pada papirus, dan merupakan alat tulis yang paling lazim digunakan pada zaman kuno.
Kata kalam dengan pengertian alat tulis dalam kosakata bahasa Indonesia, merupakan sebuah kata serapan dari bahasa Arab: قلم (Qalam) yang berarti pena. Anak batu tulis atau gerip juga dikenal dengan sebutan kalam batu.
Kalam lebih tebal dibanding pena bulu yang terbuat dari bulu unggas dan ujungnya yang runcing tidak tahan lama. Itulah sebabnya kalam di kemudian hari tergantikan oleh pena bulu. Sekalipun demikian, kalam berguna untuk menorehkan garis-garis tebal, dan tetap menjadi sebuah alat penting dalam seni kaligrafi.
