    KIC 8462852 (juga Bintang Tabby atau Bintang WTF) adalah bintang deret utama tipe F yang terletak dalam konstelasi Cygnus sekitar 1,276.6+398.2−245.3 tahun cahaya (391,4+122,1−75,2 pc) dari Bumi. Fluktuasi cahaya yang tidak biasa dari bintang ini ditemukan oleh ilmuwan warga sebagai bagian dari proyek Perburuan Planet, dan pada September 2015 para astronom dan ilmuwan warga bergabung dengan proyek tersebut mengumumkan pracetak dari makalah mengenai arXiv yang menjelaskan data dan interpretasi yang mungkin.
    Beberapa hipotesis telah dikemukakan untuk menjelaskan perubahan besar tidak teratur bintang dalam tingkat kecemerlangan yang diukur berdasarkan kurva cahayanya yang tidak biasa, namun tidak ada yang sampai saat ini menjelaskan sepenuhnya semua aspek kurva. Hipotesis terkemuka, berdasarkan kurangnya cahaya inframerah yang teramati, berpendapat sekelompok fragmen komet yang dingin, berdebu dalam orbit yang sangat eksentrik. Hipotesis yang lain adalah bahwa sejumlah besar dari massa kecil dalam "formasi ketat" sedang mengorbit bintang tersebut.


    Nomenklatur


    Nama "Tabby's star" dan "Bintang Boyajian" mengacu kepada penulis utama studi awal ini, Tabetha S. Boyajian; KIC 8462852 juga dikenal sebagai "Bintang WTF", mengikuti subjudul studi Where's The Flux? ("Di mana Fluksnya") (sebuah lelucon yang mengacu pada ekspresi bahasa percakapan mengenai kesangsian "WTF").

    KIC 8462852 dalam konstelasi Cygnus terletak kira-kira di tengah antara cakrawala utama yang tampak (terlihat dengan mata telanjang) bintang-bintang terang Deneb (α Cyg, α Cygni, Alpha Cygni) dan Delta Cygni (δ Cyg, δ Cygni) sebagai bagian dari Persilangan Utara. KIC 8462852 terletak di selatan dari Omicron¹ Cygni (ο¹ Cygni, 31 Cygni), dan timur laut dari gugus bintang NGC 6866. Meskipun hanya beberapa menit busur jauhnya dari gugusan tersebut, hal ini tidak berhubungan dan ia lebih dekat ke Matahari daripadanya ke gugus bintang.
